In an effort to maintain safety measures and ensure physical distancing, we have been visiting our artists in their studios virtually. Double Insight is a new upcoming series which offers a glimpse into the artist studio and workplace; the sacred place where creative life and creative process coexist. ⁣

Double Insight
w/ Mark Dicey

Over the past 37 years, Calgary artist Mark Dicey has brought both dedication and energy to a wide range of his creative interests.

These days his focus is split between his home studio and his beloved sketchbooks. His daily (morning & night) sketchbook developments are possibly more notable because of his inspirational Instagram feed @paddlecoffin (a must follow!)

Although it’s Dicey’s momentous canvases; almost absent from social media but widely collected, that highlight those daily practices. Dicey does not use these “sketches” as source material to be copied or even as studies, however they undoubtedly bolster his visual vocabulary through observation and experience. With both, Dicey explores the page and canvas boldly and intuitively with perhaps his only parameter being scale…and even then he is willing to push the limit.

Mark Dicey’s work is collected locally, nationally and internationally and can be found in numerous private and corporate collections; including the Canadian Embassy to Belgium, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, City of Calgary Civic Collection, the University of Calgary-Nickle Galleries, Earls Canada, Poole Law, Cenovus, Encana, PetroCanada, and many others.
