ARSENEAULT’S new series Spectral Maneuver is an extension of her monumental body of work Falling Off The Log [currently on-view at the Esker Foundation through December 2022 ]. The works in Spectral Maneuver are monochromatic assemblages, ethereal and graphic, like specters paused in space. Delicate bursts of graphite and printed collage float across the picture plane in a dreamlike sequence, imagining a magical aura or vision. The suite of ten, loosely figurative drawings quietly ask us to close our eyes, look inward and imagine a world where thoughts and emotions have movement and gesture, legs, arms, body and head.
ROBIN ARSENEAULT works and lives in Calgary and is a graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design (BFA, 1998) and the Edinburgh College of Art (MFA, 2005). She was long-listed for the Sobey Art Award in 2007, received the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award in 2008, and has been awarded grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and Alberta Heritage. ARSENEAULT has shown her work in Canada, the USA, Scotland, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, and is in many private and public collections including the Alberta Foundation for the Arts; Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton; Nickle Galleries, Calgary; Scotiabank; Fairmont Hotel Group; and Simons Department Stores.

DICEY is widely known for his visually rich paintings and extensive catalog of sketchbooks. His latest body of work, while more graphic, geometric and sculptural, also features his expressive painterly approach and endless layers and line-work. These windows or portals invite the view to peer through the curtains of process and explore the unexpected pops of colour, pattern, and bewildering shapes.
When approaching this two-person exhibition, one can’t help but see the interesting similarities and differences of ARSENEAULT + DICEY’S work. Despite functioning with completely distinct and autonomous visual languages, the context of being viewed in tandem pulls out motifs and shapes that are in-common among both artist’s work.
